The media relations team works to support the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and UHealth - the University of Miami Health System, fielding interview requests and promoting our groundbreaking research and clinical care. If you would like to speak with a member of the Miller School faculty, including physicians and researchers at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, please contact us. We are here to help you connect with experts in a wide variety of medical specialties.

All media on the medical school campus must be escorted by a member of the media relations team. Before your arrival, please contact someone from the media relations team to schedule an interview, escort you, and, if needed, obtain appropriate patient consent.

Lisa Worley

Asst. Vice President of Medical Communications and Media Relations

Lisa leads and coordinates all media relations, external/internal communications, and content creation for the Miller School of Medicine and UHealth – the University of Miami Health System, overseeing related social media, video production, crisis communications and various other communication channels. After working 18 years in broadcast journalism, Lisa joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2007. A Fort Lauderdale native, Lisa is a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in Communication Studies. She currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Group on Institutional Advancement.

Diana Gonzalez

Director of Media Relations, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center

Diana Gonzalez is the Media Relations and Communications Director for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, focusing on pitching and coordinating news coverage, creating video and social media content, and internal communications.
Diana is a familiar name and face in South Florida having worked as a broadcast journalist here for 35 years, specializing in medical news. She was the health reporter at NBC6 and WPLG Channel 10. Diana also worked as a national correspondent for CBS News, based in the Miami Bureau.  Most recently, she was Director of Communications for the City of Miami.

A University of Florida graduate, Diana is the recipient of numerous awards including 5 Emmys. She is most proud to be the mother of two grown daughters and a 20-year cancer survivor.

Joanna Palmer

Director of Media Relations

Joanna Palmer develops external communication plans and manages media opportunities for UHealth focusing on sports medicine, orthopedics, diabetes, pediatrics, psychiatry, cardiac surgery, and ear, nose and throat. She has 15 years of communications experience – 10 within the health care sector – including public relations, crisis communications, marketing and branding. Prior to joining UHealth, Joanna oversaw communications and marketing strategies for Mount Sinai Medical Center, the American Heart Association (South Florida chapter), and Gastro Health. A Miami-native and a Cane through and through, Joanna graduated from the University of Miami with a B.A. in Marketing and a M.A. in Print Journalism. Joanna is completely fluent in both English and Spanish.

Kai Hill

Manager of Communications

In her role as a manager of communications, Kai is responsible for gaining local and national media coverage for groundbreaking health stories and medical research in ophthalmology from Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, cardiology, public health, and infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS. A former Sun Sentinel reporter, her media experience spans 18 years and encompasses media relations, print journalism, features writing, and online media production. Prior to joining UM, Kai spent several years covering international disasters and global health initiatives, and worked as a media relations specialist at Miami Dade College. She earned her B.S. in communications and is a candidate for her M.A. in International Studies at Morgan State University.

Scott Roy

Director of Communications, The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis

As the director of communications for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, Scott serves as the primary liaison for physicians and scientists at the world’s largest spinal cord injury research center. He majored in public relations and political science at the University of Miami and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. Before joining The Miami Project, he spent time with public relations firms Burson-Marsteller and Pearson-McGuire Associates in Miami. Scott handles the day-to-day public relations duties for The Miami Project and the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, the national fundraising arm of The Miami Project.
